A Study of Medication Complience in Leprosy Patients

Abstract
Chemotherapy of leprosy was lifelong since eighties, thus patient complience was poor, drug intake was frequently irregular, and high drop-out rates were common. The need for regimens of shorter duration therefore become increasingly obious. In 1981 WHO recommended multidrug regimens with shortest possible period (6 months in paucibacillary leprosy, 24 months in multibacillary leprosy). To obtain high efficacy of these regimens regular intake is essential factor.
The purpose of this study was investigate the complience behavior of leprosy patients in light of their health belief model that explains an individuals complience with health maintenance or getting well.
The subjects of this study were 66 leprosy patients selected from out-patients of Catholic Skin Clinic in Taegu. Data was collected from Oct. 1, 1988 to Dec.30, 1988 using the questionaire method and analysed by the use of means, standard deviations, coefficient of correlations, analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis.
The results were as follows.
1. The degree of complience by democratic variables such as age, sex, marrital status, religions, education, and occupation appeared to have no significant influence on dependent variables.
2. Of the 6 independent variables in light of health belief model, motivation and susceptibility are correlated to dependent variable complience.
